Telecom testing:
When a telecom market is deregulated, new network operators or service providers will enter the market. These new companies need to connect their network - or switches - to one or more of the existing operators. For both parties - both the existing operator and the new operator - it is crucial that the networks are 100% "compatible" and the signalling is working properly. Otherwise specific services including billing may not work correct. This has made it necessary to perform "Interconnect test" to verify that the switches are configured correctly and that all services are working 100%. These interconnect tests have been specified by international organizations such as ITU-T.
